Ax les Thermes

  There is a new cable car that takes one up to the ski resort of Ax Bonascre from the spa town of Ax les Thermes.  Ax is a pleasant town surrounded by mountains, on the way to Andorra , with a hot spring where you can dangle your feet.  

 Foix

  Foix is the prefecture town  of the Ariège.  Sited on the Rivers Ariège and Arget it was the gateway town to all villages and towns south - you have to visit the Chateau des Comtes high on the hilltop.  From there descend into the old town with it’s shops and half timbered buildings.

 Mirepoix

  Apart from having a wonderful Monday morning market, Mirepoix is a bastide town, in the middle of which is a beautiful arcaded market square surrounded by houses dating from the 13^th, 14^th and 15^th century.  

 Pamiers

  Notice the rose coloured brickwork of the old buildings – this department is well known for some of the most beautiful buildings as well as spectacular scenery – this town is bordered by a canal which makes it a delightful place to visit.
